About Us

Dr. Ying Sun received her B.Eng. degree from Tsinghua University in Beijing and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Iowa. Prior to joining Drexel in September 2009, she was an Assistant Professor with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the State University of New York at Binghamton. Dr. Sun's research interests include multiscale modeling of transport phenomena in energy systems and materials processing, nano/micro-scale two-phase heat transfer, complex fluids physics, printable electronics and photovoltaics, and other areas of multiphase flow and heat/mass transport. She has authored over 60 refereed publications. Dr. Sun was a recipient of the National Science Foundation CAREER Award and the AFOSR Summer Faculty Fellowship.

Postdoctoral Researchers

Dr. Swanand Bhagwat - is currently working as a Research Scientist. He received his B.E. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Amravati University, India and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Oklahoma State University. Prior to joining Drexel in 2016, Swanand worked as a Lecturer and a Postdoctoral Fellow at Oklahoma State University. He is currently working on development of novel heat exchanger for dry cooling of power plants. Swanand’s research interests are in general area of multiphase flow, design of thermal systems and renewable energy systems.

Current Students

Charles Andersen - PhD Student. Charles received his bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Delaware in 2011. His past research experiences include studies in simulations of particle laden turbulent flow and computational efficiency. He is currently doing research in simulations of flow batteries. Charles is originally from Maryland but is currently living in Philadelphia, PA. In his spare time, he enjoys playing board games and reading.

MinResizedMin Pack - PhD Student. Min received his B.S. in Engineering Science and Mechanics from Pennylvania State University and M.S. in Sustainable Engineering at Villanova University. His past research focused on low-cost product design for the developing world context with Penn State's Humanitarian Engineering and Social Entrepreneurship Program. His research helped start Mavuuno Greenhouses Inc. in Nairobi Kenya. Motivated by his background in sustainability science, he is currently researching template-assisted self-assembly of nanoparticles within the subject of 3D nanoprinting.
